Citizen Squids are a panel of volunteer lensmasters who, in exchange for weekly assignments, get first dibs on new features, learn the top skills from our awesome staff, and see how our top secret projects will work before we even launch them!

The Top Five Reasons The Citizen Squids is the Coolest Lensmasterperk

  • Citizens get to test new tools before anyone knows they exist.
  • Citizens get a hand at forum moderation - to keep them clean and build excitement.
  • Citizens learn tricks from the SquidStaff about how to build great lenses.
  • Citizens get to share their ideas with others and get bonus exposure for it.
  • Citizens play a role in shaping Squidoo's future!

Do you have what it takes to be a Citizen?

Are you interested in becoming a Citizen Squid? Here's what we're looking for in our next round of Citizens.
  • An 8-week commitment.
There are six citizens at all times, with three new citizens rotating in every four weeks. This offers members an 8-week commitment with the opportunity to come back after taking 4 weeks off.
  • 2-3 assignments per week.
Some weeks you'll be creating lenses, some weeks you'll be gathering links or resources, and some weeks you'll be brainstorming. There might even be a writing assignment. It's always different!
  • Forum moderator.
Each of our Citizens takes 2 or 3 forum categories to moderate for a few weeks. Moderation involves removing duplicate posts, keeping an eye out for spam and naughty users, and generating discussion or challenge ideas.
  • Must work well with others.
As a team of six, you'll often be doing group assignments through an online workspace. Teamwork skills are a must. That doesn't mean you can't also be a leader!
  • Leaders wanted.
We're looking for people who aren't afraid to get out there and make things happen. Many assignments involve meeting new people, creating something brand new, and stepping outside your comfort zone. Are you ready?

Are you ready to be a Citizen Squid?

To apply for the next round of Citizenship, leave us a message with your top three reasons why you would make a great Citizen Squid!

In order to complete all the assignments, the ideal Citizen will have a solid understanding of internet, browser, and Squidoo skills. You don't have to be a prolific lensmaster; it is helpful if you understand the system and all the basic steps of building great lenses. Having access to multiple browsers, especially FireFox is a bonus. And you should expect to spend 2-3 hours per week doing assignments, and about 15 minutes per day checking the forums.

We're currently on Version 2.2, which lasts through December 30th, so if you're chosen you expect to hear from us a few days before that and start on December 31st.

What if you're not chosen? We get a lot of applications and try to include a mix of lensmasters. Plus we can only take on three new members every 4 weeks. If not this time, maybe next time!
